Lund's Resistant Queens

In Finland, queen bees bred without Varroa control.

"The queens bred by Juhani Lunden offer the best resistance to Varroa mites in Finland. Central European beekeepers already have tens of thousands of them in use."

This summer 2022 I will not be making for sale, only for my own use.

Lunden's line is available for use this summer from Timo Rahkola, and you can contact him at: 0440417890, tm.rahkola@gmail.com

The brood queen Lundénin has been varroaing from an unscathed bee population since 2008. The drone population is arranged in the mating area from the offspring of the brood queen from the previous summer. The drones are therefore mainly from Lundénin's B52(JL) line.

Care instructions, about giving the mother

Why buy bees that are more resistant to Varroa?

  1. In the longer term, the pesticides used against Varroa mites are losing their effectiveness as viruses become more prevalent.

  2. This provides additional time for timing control when operating under very high tick pressure. In lighter tick pressure, controls are no longer needed.

  3. Savings in working hours, wage costs, pesticides, fuel costs.

  4. Reducing the risk of occupational accidents when working with dangerous acids.

  5. The Varroa-resistant bee has been bred to have a highly hygienic behavior. It effectively cleans the hive of not only mites but also larvae carrying the disease, preventing the spread of the disease. This means that the hives are healthier, reducing the potential need for renovations.

  6. Bee welfare. Are you wondering what putting acids in the hive does to bees? Oxalic acid destroys the bees' digestive system. If formic acid dissolves the chitin shell of a mite, then the acid bath doesn't necessarily feel good to the bees either. Queen deaths.
